MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Saturday, a source on the ground told Sputnik that UN staff had arrived in Aleppo to carry out militants' evacuation previously proposed by UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
"It is completely untrue that UN staff arrived in east Aleppo yesterday [Saturday] to carry out an evacuation of fighters," Tom said.
Fighting in Aleppo has escalated as the Syrian army and local militia forces managed to encircle groups of militants in Aleppo's eastern districts. Government troops began to advance after the September 12 ceasefire collapsed.
