NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Earlier on Tuesday, authorities responded to a suspicious unattended bag left in the departure area of Terminal 5. The area was evacuated and a bomb squad was called to the scene.
"PAPD [Port Authority Police Department] cleared the package and Terminal 5 resumed normal operations," Pentangelo stated on Wednesday.
The scare occurred one day after three suicide blasts rocked a terminal at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport. According to the Turkish Justice Ministry, the attack has left 41 people dead and more than 200 injured.
No terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Turkish authorities have said Daesh is the main suspect.
Daesh is outlawed in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
