WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama has been briefed on the death of a US military member in Iraq, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
"President Obama has been briefed on this incident," Earnest told reporters.
Earlier Tuesday, US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter confirmed that enemy fire killed a military man in combat near the Iraqi city of Erbil.
Earnest noted that Obama extended his condolences to the family of the Navy Seal, who has not been publicly identified.
Iraqi Peshmerga forces reported that Daesh fighters had sent three car bombs to occupied Iraqi towns Tel Isqof and Musqelat near Mosul. Earnest said in the briefing that US forces are still engaging the remnants of the Daesh forces.
