MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The statement added that the Northern Fleet intensified training of its staff in 2015 and increased the frequency of exercises up to 20 percent in comparison with set objectives.
"In 2016, Fleet Surface and Fleet Submarine Forces will continue to provide security and stability at strategically important sea directions. Crews of several naval surface forces have already proceeded with a meaningful preparation for the long-distance voyages in the seas of the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans and to the Mediterranean Sea," the statement said.
The Northern Fleet's ships conducted over 20 long-distance voyages in 2015.
